Boycott the movie 50 Shades of Grey - 27 Good Reasons WHY

Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2011 controversial, appalling, pornographic novel by British author E. L. James. 

It is now being released by Universal a movie under the same 
title and will premiere  regular movie theaters in February 2015.

I am hoping we can use the time between now and then to pray, fast and ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten how it's best to fight this battle.

 27 Good Reasons to Boycott 50 Shades of Grey

REASON #1
The movie is pornographic in nature. Pornography damages families. Don't believe me? CLICK HERE and read a research study by Dr. Patrick Fagan on its devastating effects.

REASON#2
It is degrading to women. 

“There is nothing empowering about whips and chains or humiliation and torture.  Women as a group will not gain power by collaborating with violent men. Women would be serving only as an agent to further their own sexual degradation, handing themselves on a silver platter to exactly the sort of men who want to use and abuse them, and take away their power.”

REASON #3
You are putting yourself in moral danger watching it. The movie will put you near the occasion the of sin.

REASON #4
If you are a mother, you are setting a bad example for your children.

If you allow your children to see the movie, you are making a grave mistake. 

What are you telling your children by giving them permission to see it?

Mothers have been given many God given gifts. By their very nature mothers are intended to guard children from from negative influences. To have a mother, whose primary duties are to care for her children, to do their utmost to be  a model of virtue, to pass down the Catholic faith and work for the salvation of her children's souls; for that mother actually go and take pleasure in watching abhorrent sexuality is nothing short of diabolical. What message are we sending to our sons and daughters by entertaining ourselves with movies that degrade that which is meant to be sacred.

REASON #7
It sends ALL the wrong messages about sex, intimacy and the purpose of the marital act. The movie takes that which is sacred and turns it into something profane.

What happened to the days where mothers talked to their daughters about the importance of not loosing their virginity?

It says much about our culture when women are devouring pornography shamelessly in public at a movie theatre.


REASON #8
It will cause conflict in relationships and problems in the sexual realm. Images are powerful, and if you think that watching those images will not cause you problems. You really are naive.  CLICK HERE to find out about problems it has caused.

REASON #9
The movie is full of vulgar and coarse language.

Prayerfully discern this thought:

In choosing to entertain yourself by watching a movie that if filled to the brim from beginning to end with pornography, vulgarities, abuse and watching people sin, 

Do you think that you may be sinning in making that choice?

REASON #10
If you go to the movie, you are financially supporting the promotion and distribution of abusive, sexually abhorrent material. Surely that makes you culpable for making the world a less wholesome, a less moral place. 

Certainly there are spiritual consequences for that. 

You could use that money to actually do good and promote God's Kingdom on earth.

Hollywood would not produce filth
                                 if people weren't watching it.

REASON #11
You are a Catholic. Surely that must mean something. 

It is not enough to sit in the pews on Sundays, recite prayers and put money in a collection plate. It seems a bit hypocritical to pray seeking the Will of God (Our Father) and then use our will in a way to that is is offensive to God. 

REASON #12
Garbage IN - Garbage OUT 

We have often heard the adage 

                     "You are what you eat."

Well, you are what you read, what you listen to and what you watch and what you do. watching There are no possible good fruits of  watching this movie. It's like making a decision to have just a little bit of  spiritual poison.

REASON #13
Monkey see, monkey do.

The movie attempts to normalize aberrant sexual behavior such as BDSM. It is a an dangerous movie especially for impressionable young adults of both sexes, who may decide to experiment. 

The movie is filled with erotic practices involving dominance, submission, role playing, restraint, bondage and violence. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder published by the Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), by the American Psychiatric Association states that sadism and masochism are mental disorders. The movie is not harmless entertainment. 

                Just as an issue of Playboy magazine is not

harmless 50 Shades of Grey is not harmless.

The Catechism of the Catholic paragraph 2354 -

Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, and the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

REASON #16

If you don't STAND for 

SOMETHING,

     

                You will FALL for 

                                           ANYTHING.

What do you stand for? 

What are you saying to your friends by going with them to see this movie?

Are you really an 'anything goes' person? If you have any moral backbone at all -- boycott the movie and tell people why they should boycott it too! 

Be a light in the darkness of our culture.

Why not talk about your disdain for the movie?

Use the movie as a talking point to evangelize at the workplace, in hockey arenas, baseball diamonds - talk about it.

Why are women afraid to discuss the truth?

REASON #18

Science has confirmed that

If you have an addictive personality  the movie is even more dangerous. Watching the movie can trigger an addiction.

The movie robs human beings of their dignity.

Surely you know the marketing adage that "sex sells" and that's why the movie has been produced, to make a buck.

Making a buck at the expense of your moral character.

Just because the Oprah Winfrey and the Today Show promote the film, surely YOU know better.

The movie is sending the WRONG message

 to both men and men about what they both want or expect from one and other!

Would they go to see such a movie?

Jesus died on the cross for you! 

Don't insult Him! 

Surely you are not going to jeopardize the salvation of your soul for a movie?
