Millionaire's Family

There are a lot of things that I do not understand: how the engine of my cars works, why anyone in the world would choose to be an accountant, or why people get up an ungodly hours to exercise. But since having my son, I have been flabbergasted and totally confused by the reaction of well meaning family members and friends to our new family.

“Oh, now you have a perfect family. You have a girl and now a boy. Now you have everything. A millionaire’s family. Aren’t you happy? You don’t have to have any more children. You have one of each. Isn’t that great?”

Once I got passed the shock of these unthinking statements, I began a quest to try to understand them. Do people really believe that human beings are just like “brands”? Once you have the two types that are on the “market”, you have got it all? And that that’s all that you need? Talk about objectifying human beings.
It seems ridiculous to me to surmise that somehow value or contribution of a child is determined by their sex. Isn’t that everything that we as a generation have been battling against? And we get so easily get “trapped” in that thinking.

I like to think of each child as a soul, a new being that God has entrusted in to my care. We give lip service to the notion that children are a blessing, and a gift from God.
The second thing that really bugs me is the notion that “two” children are “enough.” How did we arrive at this magical mythical number? When and how did this “new norm” of two begin? It drives me crazy to think that people have somehow convinced themselves that they “can’t handle more than two. It’s an insult to the potential of human beings.

In a world where we have everything at our disposal, with no cows to feed, or land to till, we’ve deemed ourselves too weak, or proudly self indulgent, to raise a family of more than two children.
Do you believe that children are a blessing? Do you believe that each child is a gift from God? If you do, if in your heart of hearts you believe this to be true, why in the world would you stop at two? Why wouldn’t you be open to as many children as God would want to give you? Why are you limiting the “gifts” God wants to give you?
I can hear your litany of excuse and, yes, even your rage. But if you are open-minded, think about it, women for years have been struggling to have more “power.” What could be more powerful than the creation, birth and formation of another human being?

Wow - talk about having your head in the sand! The "magical mythical number" of 2 is quite simple mathematics. You + your husband = 2 people. If you have two children, and two children alone, when you die there will be no extra people on our fragile planet. By being so self-absorbed and having 'as many children as God wants to give you', you are contributing to the exponentially exploding population on Earth. This is my "excuse" ... I'm trying not to contribute to the death of the entire human race (and all living creatures on Earth - except for maybe the cockroaches).

Hey anonymous. It's too bad you choose to remain anonymous. Talk about head in the sand. Did you ever visit this website? http://overpopulationisamyth.com/

hmm basing your children's number on not contributing to the death of the entire planet........I suspect that it is not the number of children you have that helps or harms the planet, but that if you raise the amount of children you do have to love one another and respect the earth.
